Candy Chang / New Orleans
Before I die…
In New Orleans, artist Candy Chang turned the side of an abandoned house in her neighbourhood into a giant chalkboard and stenciled it with the sentence “Before I die I want to _______.” so anyone walking by could pick up a piece of chalk, reflect on their lives, and share their personal aspirations in public space. The work quickly became a sensation with versions of the project in dozens of countries worldwide. The Ottawa edition of the project will be mounted in the SAW Courtyard as well as a community-driven version in a west-end community housing complex.
