Gallery 240 presents New York performance artist Jeanne Wilkinson and Frank Lind, with his “Life is Beautiful” series of serious paintings in the manner of Sargent.
“In the whole long arc of European painting the masterworks of John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla have rarely been equally. Both employed astonishingly deft brushwork with great powers of observation and a profound understanding of form related to color. Frequently, their subject matter is concerned with a very good life indeed, punctuated by arrestingly beautiful paintings.
My relationship to these artists is one of awe and deep affection. I frequently copy masterworks ( it is, after all, how painters used to learn ) and increasingly make pictures that are essentially homages–paintings ala Sargent, except with nudes, and loved ones posing on the beach in the manner of Sorolla’s elegant ladies promenading near the ocean. Making these paintings is challenging, edifying and fun.”
I believe that the way to have a beautiful life is by creating beautiful experiences”
